Gerry Mayo
A co-founder and the Aussie half of this dynamic duo, Gerry started playing guitar as a young teen. Then as a young adult, he formed, played and toured with and in many different bands. Gerry spent several years working for the Yamaha Music Corporation (Japan) both in the stringed instruments and professional audio divisions. It’s through this association where he worked alongside and for many local and international touring bands.
Gerry possess the talent of being both ‘street smart’ and ‘corporate wise.’ He has worked for organizations from small to enterprise-level, has owned and operated technology companies and has freelanced as a business consultant. His passion for playing still holds true and continues to play nearly every day.
James Maida
The lone Yankee. After getting the music bug at 8-year old and playing his first gig at the age of 12, James played in several bands during high school and his early college years. Faced with the tough decision of being a lifer or pursuing a corporate career, he eventually completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and subsequent master’s degree in business. While no longer in a band, James never abandoned his love for listening and playing music.
In the corporate world, James spent several decades developing high-technology systems for the aerospace, military and aviation industries. Although James spent many years as a product development engineer, he also devoted a portion of his career in executive management honing his management, business development and finance skills. Before joining DuGyte Systems, he was the lead product and business development director at two companies he co-founded. James is excited to be a contributor to and co-founder of DuGyte Systems, coming full circle from his early musical days as a youth and being involved in an industry he loves and so deeply missed.
Doug Johnstone
Doug Johnstone has been described as an “Icon” of the Queensland Music Industry. He has spent over 3 decades, both “On the Road” touring as a Sound Engineer and Lighting Designer for many major Australian and International artists, and as a Lead Singer and then Bass Guitarist, singing and playing in several rock bands around Australia.
He has also managed a couple of the largest retail music stores in the state and his knowledge of musical instruments, specifically “electric guitars” is something you just can’t learn overnight!
Reece Speices
As Managing Director of Music Express and Director of Noise Toys Imports, Reece has developed an enormous amount of business and music industry experience both nationally and internationally. He has been intimately involved in the music industry for the better part of three decades, both as a businessman, musician and recording artist. Key strengths include importing , exporting, retail , marketing , music management, audio post production and music licensing.
On the retail side of the industry, Reece has successfully positioned Music Express as one of Australia’s most iconic music shops, catering to an extensive educational network as well as the professional MI sector. He was also instrumental in launching, managing and directing the growth of Noise Toys Imports, establishing it as a major distributor and importer of some of the world’s best musical equipment into Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. With a vast array of manufacturers and end-users, Reece has stablished and managed global partnerships, international distribution and an extensive dealer network.
